Nuh Night

She sleeps, quiet, calm,
Each breath, tiny, sweet,
I smile, holding back tears,
I never thought I could love like this,
I watch her, I need to take it all in,
She will be grown soon...
Not too soon I hope,
A young dad swallows the lump in his throat,
She stirs, eyes open, a smile,
"Daddy sleep." she says tapping the side of her crib,
I lay my head as we do every night,
She puts her head back down,
Her eyes fixed on mine,
"Daddy sleep." she says pointing,
"I will my love. You shut your eyes too."
As her eyes close she gives me that "LaLaLa" look,
She sleeps, quiet, calm,
I walk silently out the door, at least I try,
Floor creeks, door squeaks,
Time for mommies and daddies to go to sleep,
Nuh night my love...

  1. I wrote this for my daughter when she was sleep training. Bed time has always been daddy and daughter time. Even now with my son bed time is my time. This is probably my favorite thing I have ever written.
