So last night Steve and I sat down and watched Battle: Los Angeles. It was OK. Steve couldn't get over it's comparisons to the Will Smith movie Independence day. Which.. OK, there are some parts that were really close. It's tough to make a movie that hasn't already happened. Invasion movies are usually the same. Aliens come, they want something we have, We have to figure out how to get past their amazing technology advancements to kill them, and in the end humans win. For the most part that's the way it goes down.
To me.. and I LOVE Independence Day, but this one felt a lot more real. ID had a lot of comedic parts, but that's the actors they had. This one is really dark, much more realistic vibe to it. Plus it was more like military VS alien military. The aliens used a lot of war tactics that humans have used / would use, such as high ground, scouts, grunts, air and ground support. They didn't have laser guns (as far as I could tell it was closer to our weapons but upgraded. I would love a COD styled game like this. They already have zombies.. why not an alien round. Just saying.
Also Battle:LA had Ne-Yo in it. And I don't know if it was because I had a couple drinks, but through the whole movie whenever he was on the screen Steve and I broke into his song "Single", which really added to the feel of the whole taking over the world thing. No.. really.. it didn't.
So all in all I liked this flick, and recommend it. If you have a chance go to the theater and check it out, or if you have a good set up at home this will be one to grab on Blue Ray I'm sure.
