SO, I'm sure everyone has seen this video by now, but in case you haven't check it out. I have links to YouTube and TMZ. And on the TMZ site there are links some other insane videos, including a pastor saying it's OK to "beat the gay" out of a child. *shakes head*
YOU HAVE GOT TO BE FUCKING KIDDING ME! In so many ways I can't believe this is still a fucking problem. Just when you think we have started growing and evolving as a society, some religious asshole comes along and shits something like this out. Religion... oh religion, you stupid bitch.
Honestly this is a super big convo that I would LOVE to get into with you people over some drinks. Its one of those things that I love talking about because it makes people uncomfortable. Which I don't get. It's YOUR beliefs. Either you believe it or you don't. When it comes to God and religion I'll be honest, I am on the fence. I don't know whats out there. NO ONE DOES. We all have ideas, and beliefs. But unless the skies part and the Lord comes down and clears all this shit up for us, no one knows whats going on. NO ONE. If you think you do, calm the fuck down. You read a book and now you think you know something. My wife is going to start reading the Twilight series (despite my groans). Once she is done she can preach whats in there, but that doesn't mean she knows more than anyone else. Now the thing with that series is the author is still around and we can get some answers. The bible, not so much. So we all know the same thing right? Once your are done reading it, there is no way to know more than anyone else. "I just know", doesn't cut it. Bring me some facts or STFU.
I think here is something. What, I don't know. But I'm not going to say there is one god and he is the best and everyone else is incompetent or going to "hell" if you don't believe what I believe. If there IS a one true god, do you REALLY think that's how he wants you to treat others? He wants his children taught to hate, and classify people. To judge people? What grounds to do you have to pass judgement on ANYONE? Do you think he wants wars fought in his name? C'mon. I would think not. If you believe in religion and god, shouldn't you also believe that he is the "creator"? That he made all of us. Including gay people? It's not a choice they make, they are born gay. So god wants them to be gay. I'm just using your logic here.
The way I see organized religion is that it is a crutch. And some people need a crutch, that's not a bad thing. Some people need something bigger than themselves to believe in... Some sort of purpose. And there are A LOT of people that it helps. And they live happy lives and are good people. Hey, that's awesome! But it's when people start using a book as a weapon that shit goes to hell. You can take ANYTHING in literature, have two people read it they will get out of it what THEIR perception is. It's the same words, but each person has a different idea as to what it is they read. So when you have something like the bible, which I have read most of, you can take things so many ways. You know why? Because that's how it was written. It was written in such a way that it can grab the most people. Almost ANYONE can read it and say, "hey, that makes sense to me". But now a days people have taken it to far. They have become militant with it. My beliefs are better than yours and so on. Religions have expanded, changed, and adapted in new ways to make it more accessible to the new age and so on. All of it is the same, but you take out parts you don't like, add something you do and Wham, you got your own religion. Get a church and start the preachin'. The changes you made might make sense to some people that read it similar to you, and they join up. Now you have different religions, stemming from the same thing. Which is fine, except now they hate each other. Because instead of enjoying the beliefs and messages for what they really stand for, now people just want to be right.
The way I have always said it. "Believe what you want. Just leave me outta it." Why can't we each believe different things and still live in peace together? If you know you are "going to heaven" but you have concerns for me. Tough, those are my concerns; not yours. Just let other people be. None of us know whats going to happen, so just enjoy life and let things happen as they will. As long as we are all kind to each other why does it matter what we believe, or what color we are, or who we like sexually. We are all the same. No really we are. So chill out, stop spreading hate and just live and love bitches!
