An Angel Named J

This is the poem that I wrote and said during my cousin Jason Glenn Graham's funeral this weekend. It was one of the hardest things I have had to do...

An Angel Named J

On November 26th, 1974 an angel was sent to earth,
To the rest of us that was simply the day of his birth,
He was instructed to teach man kindness, and love,
To develop a warmth that surrounds like a glove,
He was good at his job and the people would flock,
He had friends of all ages, and was always willing to talk,
On Sept. 11th, 1996, in GT’s Roadhouse & Grill,
Ms. Winia walked in, and the earth stood still,
Love at first sight intrigued our angel J,
And that’s why Sept. 20th, 1997 would be their wedding day,
Our angel would go on to live a normal life,
Raise 3 gorgeous boys with his lovely wife,
Little did we know, our angel would have to go;
On October 9th, he was called back to heaven,
For us it seemed tragic, 2 years short of 37,
His last acts on earth? Save his wife and youngest with a quick wheel jerk,
Then his organs helped both young and old,
A true hero our angel, listen to what you are told,
He is now upstairs, watching down on us,
We have to use what he taught, about love, patience and trust.
Thanks for everything, Love and miss you Jay!

  1. Beautiful! I'm sorry for the loss, Shawn. It's wonderful though that his organs were able to save others.
