South Park.. 200..

So I watched the first half of the 200th episode celebration for one of my favorite TV shows that aired last Wednesday night. I was excited to see characters that have been in and out of the series in the 14 seasons it's had. As I have come to expect; there is nothing that is off limits. That means religions, politics, celebs, are all fair game. So then I watched the second half last night and it was a slightly different tune. Suddenly anyone saying the name of "Prophet Muhammad" was bleeped out like a swear word. And there was a lot of bleeps, as well "Prophet Muhammad" was censored out with the typical black bar you normally only see on Cops when the perp aint wearin' his pants. After the show was done I sat for a few minutes in silence wondering what the hell I just watched. Now don't get me wrong, it's South Park, so it was funny and awesome. But I couldn't figure out why it would have changed the way it did. That's when first thing this morning on Yahoo news I read this:

Now take a second to let that set in.... ready?.. No... Ok...... How about now? Alright, so I personally think there are two things that are really missing in this day’s age; Tolerance and Humor. For how far we have come as humans; the strides we have taken in so many aspects of life, there is still so many radical views out there just looking for something to go after. Now I'm not saying that you can't have beliefs. I feel without them there are no ideas created or any general pursuit of life. But extremist, no matter what side of the coin you are on, are wrong. This is where tolerance needs to come into play. Do I agree with everyone on the earth; no, hell no! But anyone that has to put in some time with me knows that no matter what differences of opinion or belief systems we may have, there's no bad blood.
And remember humor? Humor, or as I call it the glue that holds our unified sanity together has been completely forgotten in this situation. Come on people. Learn to laugh some things off. No I don't want to get into a flame war on religion is not funny, and so on. Then don't watch it. Ignore its existence. Is some silly show really going to have any bearing on the outcome of your life or the validity of your beliefs? No, it's really not.
At the end of the day, we are who we are and we are all different. Life is tough enough, why not try to make the most of it and have some laughs. When in doubt, hug it out. But make sure it's a Christian side hug! (Another topic all together)

  1. Beliefs that infringes others' rights do NOT belong in our country. I guess that would eliminate all of them, save Buddhism. But that's more of a practice than a religion.
