Attack Attack! - The Means War (A Review)

Artist: Attack Attack!
Album: The Means War
Year: 2012
Genre: Metalcore, Electronic, Dancecore

First off, Attack Attack! is probably the dumbest name I have ever heard. And after researching it there are 2 bands with that name. WTF? So, yeah. This is about the American metalcore band. Not fan so far. I love metalcore, but I don't like screamy whiny vocals. It's like a heavier version of The Used. Commercially its done very well selling 17,000 copies in its first week. And from what I have read online it looks like they are progressing as a band. So maybe I'll like the next record. Only Time will tell. Keep it up boys, get some more growls in there for me!

Tracks to check out:

- The Betrayal
- The Wretched
- The Eradication

Skrillex - Bangarang (A Review)

Artist: Skrillex
Album: Bangarang
Year: 2011
Genre: Dubstep, electro house, trance

So I have been getting into Dubstep a lot lately. Which is funny because in high school I would have laughed at you for listening to electronic music. But I guess it`s a good thing that people change because this album is awesome. And Skrillex is fucking awesome! I might not be scene enough to go into specifics about whats going on, and what he`s doing, but I do know good music. Great transitions, well done hooks. I pump this shit in my car DAILY! I first heard about him on one of the new episodes of Beavis and Butt-head. They played First of The Year (Equinox). And that is a SLAMMING track. Its on my workout mix, gets me fucking amped! Seriously check this one out. And everything he has done. He announced a Canadian tour this summer. So if you can check him out live, I`m sure that its awesome.

Tracks to check out:
Bangarang (Feat. Sirah)
Kyoto (Feat. Sirah)
- Right In
Breakn' a Sweat (with The Doors)

Aborted - Global Flatline (A Review)

Artist: Aborted
Album: Global Flatline
Year: 2012
Genre: Deathgrind

So it's sad to say but these dudes have been shredding since like 1995 and I'm just hearing about them now!? My apologies to the guys in the band and to my ears for not treating them to such well done chaos earlier. I'm going to have grab some of their earlier material and check it out because Global Flatline is fucking awesome! The dudes are from Waregem, Belgium and slay! This one does a good job of bridging people over from other genres of metal. So if you aren't into noise bands, but like heavy fast shit, check these guys out. They are death but kinda grind, got some speed. It's good shit, give it a listen!

Tracks to check out:
Global Flatline

- Coronary Reconstruction
- Nailed Through Her Cunt (Digipack bonus tracks)

The Avengers 2012 (A Review)

So this is one that I had been waiting for! I have really liked the way the super hero genre has been going in the past couple years.

- X-Men have always been a favorite of mine and the series went really well. X-3 lost me a little, but the X-Men: First Class totally redeemed the series.

 - Thor, not going to lie took me 3 tries to watch. I don't know why, but I couldn't get into it. Glad I did it was awesome after the dreaded 15 mins.

- Iron Man has been wickedly well done. Jon Favrea has been doing great directing that series, and I'm kinda sad that the Internet is saying he might not get to do the 3rd. I guess Shane Black, who wrote the Lethal Weapon series or something has done the screen play and will be directing. Think about it before you start fucking it up guys. You need Jon there to help out. Trust me. He did Elf for Christsake.. lol. I know that has nothing to do with this but I love that damn movie.

- Captain America was fucking sweet too. Sure Chris Evans was the Human Torch, no one cares. And sure the CGI when he is little is kinda fucked up to watch knowing he's really a stud. When shit gets popping off, that movie kills.

- The Incredible Hulk. My favorite. I'm not talking about Ang Lee's turd in 2003. I think we all agree that movie never happened... including Mr. Lee. 2008! That's what I'm talking about. Louis Leterrier got that shit right. He got Ed Norton and Liv Tyler and slayed that shit. Now ever since The Avengers started coming to light I was pissed Norton wasn't going to be in it. But that's until I saw Mark Ruffalo. He's usually doing chick flicks and sure he does that well, but this time he was taking on "the other guy". He was awesome, and in my opinion stole the whole movie.

All I have to say is watch this damn movie! It is awesome, start to finish. All the movies above have given us all the back story and BS, this one straps you in as soon as your ass hits the seat and doesn't let up. I know as soon as it is available on Blu Ray I'm jumping all over that! HULK SMASH!

Kienan Hebert’s abduction (Today)

Do you remember Kienan Hebert? He was abducted late last year. It was a big mess. Check out previous blog post for the insanity that went down. So it's been months and nothing further had really been said ever since it all went down. So I searched the Google machine and Mr. Hopley did come in and plead guilty to some charges. Check out the CTV News here. It seems that he is was identified as mentally disabled at the age of 8 and did not receive the treatment that was recommended. It still doesn't add up to me that someone disabled could do all the things that went down. Then find him in an abandoned cabin.. I dunno, maybe its me.

The Deterioration of the Canadian Society

This is something that has been driving me nuts for some time. I want to start this off by saying I have NO problem with ANYONE that is a different race, religion, color, sex.. none of that. People are people, and we are all to be treated equal.

NOW.. with that said, there has been a lot of bullshit in the news as of late with folks from other countries coming into Canada and wanting to change OUR customs. This is what bothers me. I'm not upset that they bring over their culture. I love a lot of the foods, customs, and clothing they bring over. It's when we have to change OUR customs and cultures to accommodate them that makes my blood boil.

"Merry Christmas". That is now something that is almost illegal to say. Why the fuck has it become practically abolished from the English language? It IS still Christmas time isn't it? And yes there are other holidays in there too. I have no issues with "Happy Holidays". There are a bunch in there and we can't surely list them all individually in our greetings. But if someone in passing says "Merry Christmas", don't be an asshole and say "you mean happy holidays?" you say "thank you" and keep moving. That person was trying to be nice, not offensive. I had a guest today that started to say it and then bailed on it and shook his head. He then said "well, you know. I don't know what we can say anymore." So I told him "It's merry Christmas kind sir, and you and yours have one as well." He smiled and went on his way. I can't believe that it has to be like that. Why are we so worried about how everyone else is going to feel, when all we want to do is show someone a little yule tied love. When it comes to the service industry NO ONE gives a shit anymore about being helpful or offending customers (we'll come back to this later), but in day to day conversations we have to feel bad for trying to be nice.

[Christmas no longer celebrated in schools] My daughter who is in grade one now, does not have a Christmas pageant or assembly. They have the "Festival of Festivals". In some ways it's nice because like I said there are a bunch of holidays in there and they learn a little about different cultures. I don't mind that. I actually like that my daughter is learn a lot about different cultures. Now the kicker is that on the news last night there are schools here in the city that have Muslim children in the classrooms and they have to provide those children with head phones while in school so they don't hear any Christmas carols. Why are the children not allowed to learn about our culture? Our traditions? Yes it's a public school, but this is Canada. We celebrate this season with songs about flying reindeer, and jolly old Saint Nick. It's fun. That's all it is. Why can't the kids have some fun? Why are we serious all the time?

[Sikh Mounties permitted to wear turbans] - I don't care, once again, that Baltej Singh Dhillon is a Sikh. I don't care what his beliefs are, I don't care about the color of his skin, so on and so on. If I need an RCMP and he shows up, he better do his fucking job, that's all I ask of him. NOW.. his turban on the other hand. The Mountie is a Canadian heritage staple. When people from all over the think of Mounties the think about the red jackets and wide brimmed hats. I know that they have updated their day to day wear and he should do the same. This is the uniform, this is the heritage. It's fine if he wants to come to this country and bring his heritage with him, but in no way should it effect ours. He said in his CBC archive interview that when it comes to the protesters - "I'm willing to look these people in the eye and tell them that I'm no different from them." Agreed. It has nothing to do with you being different Mr. Dhillon, but all to do with coming to a country and changing their customs to suit your needs. If I were to join the Punjab Army, how would they treat me if I asked that they only speak in English so I can be accommodated. Or that I wanted to wear the Mountie hat because that's my heritage. (religion plays a part in there I know, but that's a huge topic for another day.)

** I started this back in December: Now the fires have calmed and the train has derailed, but I want to get this out there.. So I'm going to drop a "To be continued..." But Please feel free to chime in. I don't want this to become a hate speech, that's not the point of it. I want everyone to be heard, but at the end of the day it's our country and we should be able to keep our heritage alive and well. If we heard to a different country do they change everything for us? No.

SPIN Presents Newermind: A Tribute Album (Review)

So I started this when it first came out, and then never touched it again. The reason being it was fucking terrible. Like I said in my previous post with Eyes set to Kill. There are bands out there that have covered Nirvana and did a very good job of it. And I'm sure there are a lot of WAY better bands that they could have gotten to work on this. Hell have all the bands from the grunge era that worked with Nirvana have a go at it. Let Dave Grohl do the whole album, that asshole does everything! Fuck Spin for screwing this up and every band on here needs to pretend they didn't butcher a classic. Go back and listen to Nevermind and enjoy the real thing. Thanks,

~ Dog
